Chris Ivory released by the Jaguars

NFL: Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars have released veteran running back Chris Ivory, according to Hays Carlyon of 1010XL and Gridiron Now. Ivory, 29, was signed in free agency prior to the 2016 season, but was never able to stay healthy and be productive for the Jaguars in any consistent manner. He flashed at times, but could just never keep himself on the field and had fumbling issues.

The move to cut will save the Jaguars for $4 million in salary cap space. The move to cut Ivory shouldn’t be a surprise as he was seemingly third on the depth chart behind first round pick Leonard Fournette and T.J. Yeldon.

The Jaguars right now are very top heavy at the running back position, but it’s a good draft class and that’s always a good time to pick up depth and future players at that position. The Jaguars using a Day 3 pick on a running back should come as no surprise.
