2018 NFL free agency: Are there any receivers worth the Jaguars signing?

There’s one wide receiver who is likely to hit free agency that the Jacksonville Jaguars should target immediately.

The Jacksonville Jaguars could lose two of their wide receivers this offseason and they really shouldn’t. I’m not advocating keeping both of them — Marqise Lee isn’t good enough to deserve a second contract and what he brings to the team is easily replaceable.

But Allen Robinson needs to be re-signed and it makes zero sense outside of an unknown injury to let him walk.

You invested two draft picks in Robinson — the one to trade up in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft and the one to pick him — and he earned a trip to the Pro Bowl in his second season. His production dropped off in 2016 and he was injured all of 2017, but he was never a poor player. He wasn’t as good, but that’s not the same as being bad. And your strategy should never be to invest top draft capital in skill players and then not invest a second contract in them.

Are there any other receivers worth going after next week?

Here’s Spotrac’s full listing of all free agent wide receivers in 2018.

Targets

I’ve heard Sammy Watkins as a potential target, but that makes as much sense as not re-signing Robinson. Why not keep your own guy?

Wishful thinking

I think the chances of Robinson re-signing are pretty slim, so this goes in the wishful thinking category.

What do you think? Will the Jaguars go after a veteran wide receiver in free agency? If so, who’s most likely to sign?
