The Jacksonville Jaguars went to the AFC Championship last year and were one bad quarter away from playing in the Super Bowl.
But that doesn’t matter to BetOnline.ag, who currently has the Houston Texans as favorites to win the AFC South and the eighth-best odds to win the Super Bowl. (Thanks to @OddsShark for bringing this to our attention!)
2018 AFC South odds
Houston Texans: +175
Indianapolis Colts: +400
Jacksonville Jaguars: +200
Tennessee Titans: +400
Deshaun Watson may very well be the best quarterback in the division if Andrew Luck still isn’t 100 percent. In six games when he was healthy last year, he was completing nearly 62 percent of his passes for an average of 283 yards and 3.5 touchdowns per game. That’s with a group of receivers that boasted DeAndre Hopkins and... well... Will Fuller? Bruce Ellington The run game wasn’t all that great either, averaging 115.1 yards per game which was good for 14th in the NFL during the regular season.
But the Jaguars, for all their flaws on offense, boast a historically great defense that shows no signs of slowing down. The secondary is fully in tact except for slot cornerback Aaron Colvin and the defensive line will have defensive tackle Marcel Dareus from the start instead of as a midseason acquisition.
The odds are close, and if they were switched between the Jaguars and Texans I’d think it looked right, but as of now I’d give the Jaguars the slight edge in the AFC South.
