The Jacksonville Jaguars have yet to make a decision on if they’re picking up the fifth-year option for Dante Fowler, Jr. The team has until next week to make the decision, but when asked directly if they have decided to pick it up or not, general manager Dave Caldwell declined to give an answer.

“No. May 2, right?”

“I thought he [Fowler] had a nice year,” Caldwell told Phillip Heilman of The Florida Times-Union. “He’s 23 years old, only in his second year full-time playing. He made great strides; not only on the field but off the field, too.”

Fowler had an up and down season in 2017, though it was better than his 2016 season, he was still more of a niche back up player than someone pushing for the starting job. Fowler ended the regular season with 8 sacks, doubling his 2016 total, and added two more sacks against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game.
