Jaguars 2018 depth chart: What does the 53-man roster look like after NFL Draft?

New, comments

Now that the Jaguars have collected their NFL Draft haul, what could the 53-man roster look like?

NFL: NFL Draft Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars just had a hell of a draft. If Best Available Player is dead, this front office is doing everything it can to revive it — adding to the strongest position group with their first round pick and getting guys who will compete for starter spots in every round after.

But the roster is good. It’s damn good. This is a roster that should be in every preseason conversation about who will represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

How could the 53-man roster look going into Week 1 of the regular season?

Quarterbacks (2): Blake Bortles, Cody Kessler

This one’s not too difficult. Blake Bortles is the guy and Cody Kessler is the most talented quarterback on the roster. If sixth round pick Tanner Lee makes the roster, we riot.

Running back/fullback (4): Leonard Fournette, T.J. Yeldon, Corey Grant, Tommy Bohanon

Surprisingly, the Jaguars didn’t add a running back in the NFL Draft. I could see several running backs on the practice squad, but for the 53-man roster it looks like we’ve got our four.

Wide receiver (6): Marqise Lee, Donte Moncrief, DJ Chark, Keelan Cole, Dede Westbrook, Allen Lazard

The Jaguars now have two receivers with sub-4.3 speed. That’s to help the run game, first and foremost. We’ve also got out first UDFA to make the roster — Lazard is a big bodied receiver, while not fast, excels in the red zone and making contested catches.

Tight end (4): Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Niles Paul, James O’Shaughnessy, Ben Koyack

It’s a weak position group, but it doesn’t need to be strong with the way Tom Coughlin is building this roster.

Offensive line (9): Cam Robinson, Andrew Norwell, Brandon Linder, Will Richardson, A.J. Cann, Jermey Parnell, Tyler Shatley, Josh Wells, Chris Reed

This is going to be a hell of a unit going into the season if Will Richardson can be what we hope he can and push A.J. Cann out of that starting right guard spot.

Defensive line (9): Calais Campbell, Yannick Ngakoue, Dante Fowler, Taven Bryan, Malik Jackson, Marcell Dareus, Abry Jones, Dawuane Smoot, Eli Ankou

The rich are getting richer with the addition of Taven Bryan to this group. I feel bad for opposing quarterbacks, man.

Linebackers (6): Telvin Smith, Myles Jack, Blair Brown, Leon Jacobs, Lerentee McCray, Donald Payne

This team needs a SAM linebacker in a bad way. The battle between Blair Brown and Leon Jacobs will be fun.

Cornerbacks (6): A.J. Bouye, Jalen Ramsey, D.J. Hayden, Quenton Meeks, Jalen Myrick, Don Carey

Another UDFA makes the roster! Meeks is a good player who had a lot of buzz after the NFL Draft was over — with many surprised he wasn’t a Day 3 pick.

Safeties (4): Tashaun Gipson, Barry Church, Cody Davis, Ronnie Harrison

Ronnie Harrison is a safety in waiting for 2019, but he’ll get reps this year. Cody Davis has tremendous special teams value.

Special teams (3): Carson Tinker, Josh Lambo, Brad Nortman

I don’t think seventh round pick Logan Cooke beats out Brad Nortman, who is finally feeling a fire under him.
