The Jacksonville Jaguars 2018 rookie class is going to have a tough time breaking into the starting lineup, unlike draft classes from the Jaguars past, so it makes it a bit hard to set expectations for the rookies. We’re not sure how much they’re going to play, since none of them really slot in as a full time starter right away outside of the punter.
With that being said, what are your expectations for the Jaguars second round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, D.J. Chark? How does he figure into the Jaguars offense? How much is he actually going to play with the current receiver rotation?
Chark is interesting for me as a rookie, because I think he can fit a specific role in the Jaguars offense that they’re missing, which is that guy who can line up on the outside and just take the top off the defense. The team currently doesn’t really have that guy on the roster right now. I know Keelan Cole was able to average an absurd amount per catch and get open deep, but he isn’t that just flat out pure speed guy that can put a defensive back on their heels like Chark is.
Marqise Lee was supposed to be that guy, but he’s never really shown that ability and DeDe Westbrook is more of a quick than fast, run after catch type of guy. Chark offers a unique skillset, so I think we will see him play quite a bit, even early on in the season. Of the rookie class, my guess is Chark will make the most immediate impact.
What are your expectations for him as a rookie?
