The Jacksonville Jaguars will be taking a back seat to college football for an additional weekend in 2019 — Florida State and Boise State will host their regular season opener in Jacksonville at newly renamed TIAA Bank Field.
Florida State vs. Boise State Aug. 31, 2019 season opener in Jacksonville will be officially announced at Wednesday news conference— Brett McMurphy (@Brett_McMurphy) May 15, 2018
This will be the first meeting between Florida State’s and Boise State’s football programs. And while this is technically a “neutral site” game, Florida State is just 166 miles away from Jacksonville. Compare that to the 2,513 miles that Boise State has to travel.
Jacksonville has long been the site of the annual Florida-Georgia game and hosted the Gator Bowl until it was demolished to make way for the NFL-ready Jacksonville Municipal Stadium when the Jaguars began playing in 1995.
Florida State is 13-2-1 all-time in Jacksonville. Boise State has never come to Jacksonville.
