ESPN just released their 2018 Football Power Index and the Jacksonville Jaguars are... No. 14 overall?
Above them are teams like the New England Patriots (okay), Pittsburgh Steelers (um), Dallas Cowboys (excuse me), and Los Angeles Chargers (yeah this isn’t right).
So what is this Football Power Index supposed to measure? According to ESPN:
“...the model considers each team’s win total at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, how that team performed on offense, defense, and special teams last season, how many starters are returning, and who the starting and backup quarterbacks are.”
I see. So despite the most productive run game and a defense that allowed the second-fewest points in the NFL, the Jaguars are headed into the season as a middle-of-the-road team that is just one spot higher than the Baltimore Ravens.
Neat.
What do you think? Should Jacksonville be weighted a little more higher due to an improved offensive line and a defensive line that only got better thanks to first round draft pick Taven Bryan?
