Madden 19 is coming out August 10th and one of the most anticipated events leading up to each year’s game is the release of player ratings. In recent years, the Jacksonville Jaguars haven’t had much to sneeze at — only a few players earned a rating of 90 or better meaning they’d be one of the most dominant (and most fun to play) players in the game.
But this year is different. Very different.
The Jaguars are coming off a close AFC Championship loss and they have legitimate superstars on both sides of the ball. More and more casual fans will likely be picking up the game and choosing the Jaguars unironically because now this is a team that, in the game and on the field, can win against any opponent.
With ratings for the top 1000 players in the NFL out, how did the Jaguars measure up?

There are 30 Jaguars players in the top 1000 (the average is a little more than 31 per team) and the top is absolutely loaded.
Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye are two of the best players overall in the game and at the top of the cornerback position group with 97 and 94 ratings, respectively. Calais Campbell is still a first-tier defensive lineman at 92 overall and newly signed left guard Andrew Norwell is the best offensive lineman on the team at 91 overall. Telvin Smith gets a ton of love rounding out the 90-plus club as one of the best linebackers in the game.
Brandon Linder is right below them all at 89 overall (I thought he’d be higher, honestly). Leonard Fournette is the first big surprise at 87 overall, but he’s big and fast so the raw physical numbers added to his speed bumps him up. Yannick Ngakoue is an 86 overall and Tashaun Gipson is rated the best safety on the team at 85 overall.
The biggest disappointment is probably Malik Jackson at 85 overall. That’s not a bad rating by any means, but I think his role on this line does him an injustice to people outside the Jacksonville market. He is easily a top-five player at his position and a big reason the defensive line is so dominant.
All the receivers are in the mediocre range with Marqise Lee leading the pack at 82 overall but Dede Westbrook, Donte Moncrief, and Keelan Cole all coming in at either 79 or 80.
And how did Blake Bortles do? 80 overall. That’s about right.
