Pro Football Focus just ranked all 32 secondaries in the NFL and (surprise, surprise!) the Jacksonville Jaguars top the list.
When you’ve got Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye as your starting cornerbacks, it’s hard not to be at the top. Add in Barry Church and Tashaun Gipson — two incredibly solid safeties in their own rights — and it’s easy to see why we’re the best.
1. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
Projected starting lineup:
Starting cornerback: Jalen Ramsey, 91.8 grade
Safety: Tashaun Gipson, 81.4
Safety: Barry Church, 83.2
Starting cornerback: A.J. Bouye, 88.0
Nickel cornerback: D.J. Hayden, 50.7
While they’ve taken a little hit with the loss of Aaron Colvin, they still own the league’s best cornerback tandem. Targeting Bouye and Ramsey last season netted opposing quarterbacks a cool 36.8 passer rating. They’re no slouch at safety either where Gipson (81.4 overall grade in 2017) and Church (83.2) are both quality starters.
Next on the list was the Los Angeles Chargers (sure, Casey Hayward is good and Derwin James will be fun to watch) and then the Los Angeles Rams round out the top three — who I’d put at just below the Jaguars, but it’s not my list.
What do you think? Should the Jaguars be at the top or are one of these teams better than them?
