Jaguars ready for first padded practice of 2018

NFL: Jacksonville Jaguars-Training Camp Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars have made it through four months of conditioning drills, Organized Team Activities, mini-camp, and now two days of training camp all to get prepared for tonight’s main event, as for the first time the 2018 Jaguars will don the pads and begin live hitting drills for an invite-only crowd of season ticket holders at the Dream Finders Homes Practice Complex outside of TIAA Bank Field.

Though the team has already held two open practice sessions, the first night in pads is really the first unofficial ushering in of the new football season and a chance to finally see the non-skill positions go to work.

Some things I’ll be watching for tonight:

  • Does Taven Bryan’s impressive first-step he has displayed early in camp continue to work when the pads come on?
  • Is big splash signing Andrew Norwell as advertised, as he faces the “Sacksonville” defensive line, and how much better will he make life for left tackle Cam Robinson?
  • Does rookie linebacker Leon Jacobs hold off Blair Brown and Donald Payne, and display the “thump” that he was known for at Wisconsin?
  • How will the receivers as a whole fair, against the best secondary in the league now that contact is allowed?

What will you be watching for tonight?
