The Jacksonville Jaguars have been fairly lucky with injuries, however the bug hit the wide receiver position in training camp this week. Both veterans Marqise Lee and Donte Moncrief went down with injuries this week, though both are believed to be just minor dings and nothing serious.
“You will see him and [Donte] Moncrief, they will be on the side today. They will just be day-to-day, those guys,” Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said on Monday when asked about the injuries. “It is just a matter of getting them back when they are ready. I don’t think it is a long-term situation. I always say that I think it is better when you see those guys on the side – see them working. I think exactly where they are. They are on the side. Usually, when you see guys working on the side, it means they are close to come backing back.”
The Jaguars receiver position was decimated with injuries last season, losing Allen Robinson for the season and Allen Hurns for long stretches. That hurt the offense a bit, but it also allowed players like Keelan Cole to emerge as playmakers. The receiver position for 2018 seems a lot more prepared to take on nagging injuries than in previous years.
If you want to look for the upside in Lee and Moncrief missing a few days, it just means that rookies like DJ Chark will get more reps.
