Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone announced during his Monday press conference that Jaguars veteran wide receiver Marqise Lee would be headed to injured reserve. Lee left Saturday’s preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons on a cart after a shot to the knee following a reception and did not return. You could tell via the replay that it was bad for Lee, who was visibly upset on the cart, as his knee bent sideways which is never good.
“Marqise Lee suffered a knee injury and will have surgery,” Marrone said. “Later today he will be placed on IR (injured reserve).”
Lee signed a new contract with the Jaguars this past offseason after the team let Allen Robinson walk in free agency, who was coming back from an ACL tear, and released Allen Hurns. Lee received a $7 million signing bonus, as well as $3 million guaranteed in 2018 in his new four-year, $34 million deal. The deal also includes $7.5 million guaranteed in 2019.
Lee was expected to be a big part of the Jaguars offense in 2018, but now the team will turn to Donte Moncrief, Keelan Cole, Dede Westbrook and rookie D.J. Chark for the season.
