Football is finally back, as tonight the “Kings of the South” from the AFC & NFC in 2017, meet to open their respective preseasons with Jacksonville Jaguars hosting the New Orleans Saints. While the starters from both teams likely won’t see the field much, if at all, it’s still Jaguars football under the lights against someone not in teal, black, and white for the first time in 2018.
Follow along with us tonight with live updates right here as the night unfolds, and hang around for post-game recaps and analysis following the final snap.

Live Blog
9:52 PM: It appears Lee was just short of the first down at first glance on a 4th & 6 and staring at the last gasp for the Jags tonight. Play is under review, and is upheld. Game over. Jaguars drop the preseason opener 24-20, though it was a truly dominant night for 3 1⁄2 quarters for the Jaguars. Keep it on Big Cat Country for post-game wrap ups and analysis from the gang. Thanks for following along tonight!
9:40 PM: Saints take the lead as the running back Williams walks in clean up the middle of the Jags defense. The tackling in the 4th quarter by the Jaguars has been atrocious. Saints lead 24-20, up to Tanner Lee to do something.
9:35 PM: Tanner Lee gets the ball knocked out of his hands and the Saints recover for the first turnover of the game at 4:32 left to play. Tackle Brandon Smith was beat around the edge and Lee had the ball cleanly knocked out by the Saints end...A couple of missed tackles by the Jaguars defense, now has the Saints inside the 10 looking to pull ahead for their first lead with under 3 minutes left.
9:23 PM: Hill takes advantage of an inexperienced secondary and linebacker group, as he uses his legs to break off a long run inside the Jags 10, then caps it with another bootleg into the end zone. The Jaguars rookie corners are having a better second half, CJ Reavis has made a couple plays this drive, and Quinton Meeks has shown up a time or two. Those two plays were not great, however. 20-17 Jaguars.
9:10 PM: Tanner Lee enters the game to take over the Jaguars drive, and procedes to take two sacks in a row. Anyways, here’s the aforementioned Kessler to Orndoff TD.
That @CodyKessler6 to @Orndoff8471 caps an 11 play, 51-yard drive!#NOvsJAX pic.twitter.com/WjqmunXXtW

9:06 PM: Shane Wynn makes another play, this time a 24-yard reception on a broken play from Kessler to end the 3rd quarter,
9:00 PM: Rashad Greene Sr. muffs the punt but recovers his own fumble, following another good defensive drive by the Jags back ups. Greene has looked good at catching the ball from the receiver spot in camp, but his hands on fielding punts have been an issue all summer.
8:55 PM: TOUCHDOWN JAGUARS! Kessler finds tight end Scott “Dont Call Me Paul” Orndoff in the flat, and Orndoff did the rest, running around a defender and breaking the pile on with a lunging TD. Lambo makes it 20-10 Jags.
8:48 PM: Jaguars are on the move, as it’s become the “Shane Wynn Show” this drive. Wynn has caught 3 passes for what I believe is about 25 yards, and just ran a reverse on 2nd & short for a good gain and another first down. All this dude does is make plays! Jags deep in Saints territory, again.
8:40 PM: Jaguars defense comes up in true “Sacksonville”-style, with back to back sacks of Hill by Tyler Patmon and Lerente McCray respectively, following the Saints going for it on 4th & 5. Jaguars take over from around midfield.
8:35 PM: Saints starting with the ball and rookie Taysum Hill now in at quarterback for the Saints, and driving into Jags territory.
8:35 PM: We’e back underway for the second-half. Here’s Cody Kessler’s night thus far.
Cody Kessler was 8-of-11 for 77 yards in the first half. He led two scoring drives, both field goals. Not a bad start. #Jaguars

Halftime Thoughts:
- Blake and the first team offense looked as perfect as you could ask for Game 1.
- Same for first team defense, who allowed a field goal due to shoddy kick coverage.
- Second-team corners left a lot to be desired.
- Leon Jacobs & Ronnie Harrison looked the part so far.
- Special teams coverage teams not off to a great start.
8:20 PM: Offense can’t do anything with the ball, as drive ends with our first look at rookie punter Logan Cooke, who blasts the kick deep into Saints territory and sees a great play made by DJ Chark on special teams, as he tackled the return man for no gain to end the half.
8:15 PM: Jaguars back up defense holds and we see our first punt of the night fielded by Mickens who had to lunge to protect the ball on the fair catch. Let’s see if Jags offense can do anything with :46 left.
8:10 PM: First dinged up player report of the night is not great for the LB depth.
Jaguars LB Blair Brown being evaluated for concussion.

8:03 PM: Efficient drive for Kessler, with help from a nice catch & run from Corey Grant, leads to another Lambomatic kick again from 49 yards out. Jags lead 13-10. The Jaguars QBs have been smart and efficient tonight and it’s led to scoring drives on each possession.
7:52 PM: Saints get a TD with a majority of their offensive starters still in the game and the Jaguars fielding all 2nd and 3rd team guys, as Mark Ingram runs it in from 3 yards out. 10-10.
7:49 PM: Jags get them off the field, but dumb penalty by linebacker Donald Payne extends the drive. Not good for a player on the bubble this preseason.
7:42 PM: Josh Lambo is automatic, we lead 10-3 beginning the 2nd quarter.
7:40 PM: Had some technical difficulties but we are live now! If you missed it, BOAT sailed into the end zone for the first drive of 2018.

600 PM: Update on Keelan Cole and why he’s OUT tonight. Was weird that he didn’t dress out after practicing all camp thus far. Sounds like the team is being extra cautious, as they should be.
Keelan Cole has a minor injury, nothing major. #Jaguars

5:40 PM: Some early news on the replacements for those players sitting out tonight.
Hunter Dimick gets the start for #Jaguars with Calais, Bryan and Smoot out. Wells in for Parnell. Dede in for Cole.
— Hays Carlyon (@HaysCarlyon) August 9, 2018
5:35 PM: As expected, a healthy list of game time scratches tonight for the Jaguars.

1:10 PM: Happy Game Day, folks! We still do not know how many of the starters will dress tonight, let alone how many snaps they’ll take if they do. But according to 1010XL’s Tyler Devitte, don’t expect to see any of the big names on defense tonight.
Almost all of the #Jaguars defensive starters will NOT play tomorrow vs #Saints, source tells me.
— Tyler Devitte (@1010XLTyler) August 9, 2018
I would expect LB Leon Jacobs to play
