The Jacksonville Jaguars are going to draft a quarterback in the 2019 NFL Draft — but their willingness to part with assets (whether players or future picks) will determine how highly they draft and which prospect they go after.
In December, it looked like the Jaguars would draft as high as No. 6 overall, but a late season win against the Miami Dolphins moved them down below the similarly quarterback-needy New York Giants, meaning they’re not currently the highest drafting team who needs a new guy under center.
Dane Brugler of The Athletic has now released his second mock draft of the offseason and we’re still taking a quarterback — but it’s no longer Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Daniel Jones, QB, Duke
The Jaguars obviously have an important decision to make at quarterback this offseason. With a roster built to win now, do they go with the quick fix in free agency (Joe Flacco, Teddy Bridgewater)? Or do they have the patience to develop an early draft pick? Jones might not scream top-10 selection, but his athleticism and cerebral approach to the position are why several NFL teams will consider him high.
Jones reads the field extremely well. I think he’ll be available in the second round, but I wouldn’t fault the team for going to get their guy right away.
What do you think? Would you want to see the Jaguars picking Jones or is Haskins or bust for you?
