Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Marcell Dareus will be having surgery today to repair a core muscle injury and will likely miss the next 4-6 weeks, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
#Jaguars DT Marcell Dareus is having surgery today to repair a core muscle injury, sources say. He’s in Philly with expert Dr. William Meyers, who will perform the straightforward procedure that has a very high rate of full recovery, generally taking 4-6 weeks.

And for those asking, putting him on short-term injured reserve wouldn’t be a good idea. The team would have to be without him for a minimum of eight weeks, when he could miss a minimum of four weeks (and three games) by keeping him as a part of the active roster.
With Dareus out, look for second-year defensive tackle Taven Bryan and rookie Dontavius Russell to get a lot more playing time.
