Keeping Jalen Ramsey ‘is best for the team’ says Jaguars owner

The Jalen Ramsey trade news has gone quiet since the weekend, which really shouldn’t be much of a surprise for those who have followed along closely. It hit another road black on Wednesday evening when Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan spoke with the Associate Press about a new venture, commenting on the Jalen Ramsey trade situation.

“Obviously, football is a team sport and I’m sensitive to what individual insight or viewpoint or requests (there) might be,” Khan told the Associated Press. “But we have to do the right thing for the team. We value the values Jalen adds to us, to the Jaguars. I think we value him highly. We’re still looking at what is the right thing for the Jaguars, and I think right now the best thing is to have him be part of the team.”

Khan’s comments would seem to confirm a few reports of the Jaguars turning down offers that didn’t meet the team’s valuation of Ramsey as a player. Khan has also been reported to be wanting to pay Ramsey and keep him long term, so these comments from the Jaguars owner are no real surprise.

“I’ve met with him,” Khan added. “I think my relationship with him is pretty good. This is not a request from me or a viewpoint from me. I have no issue, obviously. I’d love for him to be part of the Jaguars.”

Ramsey mentioned in a podcast that when respect has been lost by both parties, it is time to move on, however it sounds like Khan is amicable to trying to repair the relationship to keep Ramsey a Jacksonville Jaguar for the long term, and hopefully that ends up the case. When you have one of the best players in the entire NFL, you do not let them go.

Coincidentally, Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone was on Good Morning Football on NFL Network Thursday morning and touched on the Ramsey situation.

Ramsey missed Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, the first game he’s missed in his career, and missed Wednesday’s practice with a back injury. Marrone said on Wednesday right now Ramsey is day-to-day.
