Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette leads the AFC in yardage and he’s doing it the hard way — in yards after contact.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Fournette leads the NFL in yards per carry after first contact with 3.21 yards per rush — by a big margin. The next highest ranked, Duke Johnson, is nearly a yard behind him with 2.56 yards per rush after contact.

1. Leonard Fournette: 3.21
2. Duke Johnson: 2.56
3. Mark Ingram: 2.36
4. Alexander Mattison: 2.24
5. Christian McCaffrey: 2.18
It’s a testament to Fournette’s growth as a player and a runner. I think in early years he tried to use his agility or speed to get around opponents. He’s learning he’s most effective when he’s a north-south runner.
