Let’s answer some questions after a pathetic Jacksonville Jaguars display against the Tennessee Titans!
Brian from Jacksonville, FL
Q: Should Doug Marrone be fired?
A: Yes. I don’t think he’s a bad coach, but his decision making when it comes to personnel decision (Nick Foles over Gardner Minshew) and his reluctance to make changes at the coordinator position (Todd Wash should have been fired weeks ago) is pretty damning. Marrone is great at keeping a team on course through the season, but he’s not so great when tough decisions need to be made.
Joe from Atlanta, GA
Q: Does anyone get fired after this performance?
A: No, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t. If I were Doug Marrone, I’d fire Todd Wash immediately, but he’s shown he’s not going to do that.
Rory from Jacksonville, FL
Q: Will the Jaguars really keep Nick Foles past Week 17?
A: I think Nick Foles retires after this season.
Luke from Winston-Salem, NC
Q: How long until Gardner Minshew is our starter again?
A: Probably 10 months or so.
Josh from Dayton, OH
Q: This year feels eerily similar to Gus Bradley last year. You think Shad Khan actually cuts bait with Doug Marrone especially after this horrible showing?
A: It won’t happen in season, if it happens at all. Shad Khan has shown himself to be a very poor owner with bad football instincts. Until he shows he can make the tough decisions needed to try and get better, I won’t believe he has it in him to fire anyone.
Eric from St. Paul, MN
Q: Does Gardner Minshew play defense? These fans want him over Nick Foles, but last I checked the defense is letting up 35 points and counting.
A: I’m sorry, I didn’t know that only one thing can be wrong with this team at a time. Make no mistake, the defense is playing horribly — some of the worst defense in franchise history — but Nick Foles stinks.
Mitchell from Northampton, UK
Q: How long are they going to wait before they pay Yannick Ngakoue? His contract keeps costing more every week.
A: Trying to figure out when the Jaguars will make a smart football decision is an exhausting exercise. I don’t know, Mitchell, but you’re right.
Brandon from Palatka, FL
Q: What type of bag should i wear on my head for next weeks game? Paper or plastic? Publix, Winn-Dixie, or Walmart?
A: Paper bag from Publix. Gotta stay on brand.
Not Doug from Jacksonville, FL
Q: Can y’all make a piece showing that Nick Foles’ stats are mostly garbage time so my lizard-brained coworkers can stop defending him?
A: We’ll get right on that, Not Doug.
Dan from Los Angeles, CA
Q: Is there any reason to keep Nick Foles over Gardner Minshew now that we’re 4-7? Wouldn’t it be good experience for the rookie?
A: It would, but these guys want to squeeze every win out of the season and they think Foles is going to help them win games. Coaches and general managers are snakes and they’re out for themselves. They’d choose 6-10 over 5-11 in a heartbeat, even if it means sacrificing the future at the quarterback position.
Tres from Gainesville, FL
Q: At this point, what has to happen for there to be change? Players walk out? It seems like nothing is ever going to change this franchise.
A: As long as Shad Khan can make hundreds of millions of dollars every year regardless of if this team goes 16-0 or 0-16, nothing is going to change. Owners don’t need ticket revenue to stay profitable. They could play in front of empty stadiums every week and they’d still turn a profit from TV rights, merchandising, league profit sharing, and more. Owners don’t care about this team like you and me. They may say they do, but they don’t.
Lee from São Paulo, Brazil
Q: Why must we always suck?
A: This is the way.
