Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone has a decision to make — do you ride with rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew or put the $88 million dollar man Nick Foles under center?
It’s a question that’s been anticipated for quite some time, although Marrone has said he’s been purposely putting off making a decision. It makes sense to do that too. You’re busy every week preparing for the next game. You can’t take yourself away from the weekly rhythm to focus on something that won’t really even take effect until after the bye week anyway.
When asked about that decision, Marrone made it clear he would not just be choosing Minshew or Foles based on today’s 26-3 loss to the Houston Texans.
Is it fair to say that the judgment on him will not be on one game?
“On one game?”
Yeah.
“Yeah, you know, I’ve got a lot of questions, and I’m not naïve… And it’s not one game, it’ll be a body of work.”
Even with the horrible performance, you stay with Minshew. He’s the (obvious) future at quarterback. But this coaching staff and front office are on the hot seat and even squeezing one more win out of this year could make all the difference on if they have jobs in 2020.
