To the surprise of absolutely no one, the Jacksonville Jaguars will be picking up the fifth-year option for All Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Jaguars general manager David Caldwell confirmed with the media on Wednesday at the NFL combine when asked about re-signing Ramsey and defensive lineman Yannick Ngakoue long term that they would be picking up Ramsey’s option.

The former fifth-overall pick has been sensational on and off the football field, shutting down opposing wide receivers, making game changing plays and providing legendary trash talk and bulletin board material that more often than not gets backed up.

The option, which will apply for the 2020 season, means that Ramsey will be getting paid the average of the Top 10 salaries at his position. That salary becomes guaranteed due to injury, but it’s hard to imagine a scenario where the Jaguars won’t happily pay that amount for a season of Ramsey.

The Jaguars could come to a long term agreement with Ramsey, however there is no rush to do so while the team currently has so much control over the player with the fifth-year option and franchise tag going forward.
