Now that the Super Bowl has been decided, it means the offseason talk is going to ramp up quickly for teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars. They’ve filled out their coaching staff, which included the hiring of offensive coordinator John DeFilippo. We can now start looking at the roster and trying to figure out what the team is going to have in 2019 and what they could be adding and what positions they’ll want to be adding to.
You can read about the Jaguars salary cap situation right here for now, until the official numbers are released, that’s the best we’ll get.
Next up, we will look at the offensive line group.
Players under contract in 2019:
Cam Robinson: Likely the Jaguars starting left tackle, got off to a rocky start in 2018 prior to tearing his ACL. I think Robinson is fine at left tackle and expect him to be ready to go.
Andrew Norwell: While he didn’t quite play up to his massive free agent contract, I think overall his play was fine and is not someone I’m worried about.
Brandon Linder: Solid-to-good every game, however once again his season was cut short with injury.
Jermey Parnell: Was probably the Jaguars best offensive lineman in 2018 as a whole, but he also dealt with his own injuries and struggled in multiple games.
Will Richardson: Never really got going, ended his season early on injured reserve.
Brandon Thomas: A depth player who will compete for a roster spot.
Potential cap cuts:
Jermey Parnell: Parnell would seem to be on the downside of his career and keeps getting injured. Jaguars would save a straight $6 million by moving on.
Potential free agent options:
Rodger Saffold: Finally settled in at guard for the Rams. Could be someone if the Jaguars decide they want a vet to slot in at guard.
Cameron Fleming: Could be someone similar to Parnell in that the Cowboys just bleed a solid offensive lineman to free agency.
Ereck Flowers: I think the Jaguars will consider bringing him back as a swing tackle or someone to compete for right tackle.
Ju’Wuan James: Jaguars could be in the market for a right tackle.
Cedric Ogbuehi: Only 27, but has been disappointing.
Quinton Spain: Jaguars could be looking for a RG and RT in FA.
Mitch Morse: Maybe the Jaguars add a center and kick Linder to guard?
