Jaguars sign running back Alfred Blue to one-year deal

NFL: Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars added depth to the backfield today with the signing of running back Alfred Blue.

The contract is reportedly a one-year deal. Jacksonville brought Blue in for a visit earlier today, and apparently team brass liked what it saw.

Blue is familiar with the Jaguars, as he competed in the AFC South for the past five seasons as a member of the Houston Texans. The former LSU product (who preceded Leonard Fournette in Baton Rouge) rushed for 2,407 yards and eight touchdowns in Houston, and added 69 catches (nice) for 470 yards and two additional scores through the air.

Blue looks to take pressure off of Fournette and help out Foles and the offense, but he is also well aware of the talent level on the defensive side of the ball...having had to face the elite unit multiple times:

David Williams, Thomas Rawls and Dimitri Flowers are the other running backs currently on the roster.

Update:

The Jaguars have also signed fellow running back Benny Cunningham.
