7 Draft Day Scenarios

This year, the JAGS are in a weird spot with the #7 overall pick. There glaring QB issue was addressed in free agency, and now the team looks towards the draft to either fill depth, or revitalize a rather stagnant and one dimensional offense from a year ago. Here are a few scenarios I think could happen:

#1- The Giants leave Haskins on the board and opt for a defensive player, forcing the JAGS to draft him. I DO NOT think the JAGS will do this because, why piss off your new free agent QB by drafting someone who the crowd will be chanting for should Foles have a bad game? Makes no sense. Draft players that support Foles and create trust with him and the organization. If anything, sneak a QB later in the draft and still fill the need for a solid backup to learn under Foles.

#2 Both Kyler Murray and Haskins are off the board, and the JAGS have a choice of the top OT/LB/RB/TE/WR or what's left of the EDGE/DT group. Here I think is the worst spot for the JAGS, because the top QB's and EDGE/DT's are off the board. So throw the depth pick to eventually replace Marcell Darius out the window.

The JAGS have 2 options here, take the highest rated player on the board, or try and trade out and acquire more picks in rounds 2/3/4. Most draft "pro's" say they take an OT, but honestly, the o-line is fine if healthy, so that's just another depth pick. TE would be a great pickup here, RB would be a bad pickup here.

#3- The JAGS trade the #7 pick and move to the middle of the field. Let's say for example Haskins is on the board and Miami at 13 or Washington at 15 desperately wants to move up and snag him. The JAGS swap #'1's and pickup another second rounder and maybe a 5-6th rounder.

THIS makes the most sense to me as since the JAGS have no immediate need and really only depth pickups, why not trade down and scoop up more players early in the draft. Sure, TE Hockenson is a great round 1 pick, but there's maybe 4-5 other TE's to snag that can do the job well. Same with OT/S/LB/WR. Unless the JAGS see an immediate game changer @7, try and trade back.

#4- The JAGS are the JAGS and go DT @7. The more likely scenario, as Dave Caldwell JAGS it up and just keeps the D-line with more talent and depth than 2 teams combined. If future salaries are the main concern, then this is the mindset for the front office, and drafting a replacement for Dareus or Campbell is the main concern. I don't see how drafting a DT helps this team win next season.

#5- The JAGS go RB @7. This would cause some gasps in the crowd at the draft, but it may not be that bad of a move. So Fournette is the main back on the roster, with drivel behind him. The draft is deep with RB's, but if you have the option of taking the best back in the draft in Josh Jacobs (AL) then why not. It creates a one 2 punch for the offense and allows the receiving game to open up for Foles. Plus, if Fournette decides to take an 8 week vacation again, we have a solid starter than can tote the rock. A weird play at 7, but a possibility.

#6- The JAGS go WR or CB @7. So the JAGS have an option to pickup the best CB or WR in the draft @7, not glaring needs at all, but talent is talent I suppose. CB Greedy Williams (LSU) could be heir apparent to Ramsey, N'keal Harry or A.J Brown could be instant starters on the outside, but I just see it @7. Neither would be game changers for the JAGS and there's talent in later rounds.

#7- The JAGS move UP to #3 to select Josh Allen or Nick Bosa. This makes sense to me for 2 reasons. One is that it would add a premier, instant starter on the edge and create a wild pass rush. Two, it will bring the D back to it's 2017 glory and take pressure off Foles to have to win games himself. It will prob cost the JAGS their extra third and something in 2020, but to get such a premier pass rusher to pair with Ngakoue would be fun to watch on Sundays.
