It’s become a meme at this point, the NFL scheduling the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans as the Jaguars lone prime time game on Thursday Night Football. That’s likely the only prime time game that anyone expected and it’s exactly what we ended up getting.
Death, taxes and the Titans on Thursday night.
Thinking about it a bit on Thursday, it did make me wonder; Why do we hate playing the Titans on prime time?
Shouldn’t we love it? Shouldn’t that be the showdown we want on national TV?
After all, the Titans are our bitter rivals. If you think about it as a rivalry game from the college football perspective, isn’t that what you want? To take on your hated rival with everyone watching? You want the game to feel big, because to each fan base it feels big, right?
It might not feel big for the Titans at this point because unfortunately we’ve been the nail to their hammer for a few seasons, but we are both teams that should be pushing for the AFC South division crown and both teams that should be pushing for a playoff spot. We’ve screwed each other before, we’ve made making the playoffs that much harder because of a stupid loss that shouldn’t have happened and we’ve destroyed draft positions.
Isn’t that heated rivalry the show case you want on prime time to show the world?
