Mock Draft 2.0

An update on my previous mock draft:

Round 1, Pick 7 – TE TJ Hockenson (Iowa)

A win-now move for a team in win-now mode. Hockenson projects to be an impact starter on Day 1. With his size, athleticism, and sure hands (just one drop on 51 catchable targets last year, per PFF), he’ll provide Foles with a reliable safety valve and a much-needed red zone threat.

He can be a punishing run-blocker as well:

Round 2, Pick 38 – RT Dalton Risner (Kansas State)

No Jawaan Taylor, no problem. It wouldn’t surprise me if we roll with Richardson as the starting RT this year, but if Risner is available at 38, it’d be hard not to address the biggest question mark on the line with someone who should be a solid starter right away.

Round 3, Pick 69 – DT Dre’Mont Jones (Ohio State)

A move from 5 to 3-tech will help Taven Bryan be more productive, but can he step up as a starter now that Malik Jackson is gone? Jones was a highly effective pass rusher at Ohio State. Putting him in the DT rotation would take some pressure off Bryan, and drafting Jones would also be an insurance policy in case Bryan turns out to be a true bust.

Round 3, Pick 98 – RB Darrell Henderson (Memphis)

Henderson is the most explosive runner in the draft, but size and level of competition concerns should push him to the back end of the top 100 picks. He’d make a great complement to Fournette. He could even be the centerpiece of the rushing attack should the Jags move on from Fournette in 2020.

Round 4, Pick 109 – WR David Sills (West Virginia)

Sills, a former quarterback who was famously offered a football scholarship to USC when he was just in seventh grade, has been a touchdown machine for West Virginia – 15 TD last year (#2 in FBS) and 18 TD in 2017 (#1 in FBS). While speed and separation are legitimate concerns, he knows how to use his 6’ 4" frame to pluck the ball out of the sky. I’d have him develop in a backup role at first, but he might need to start early considering Marqise Lee’s injury history.

Round 6, Pick 178 – EDGE Maxx Crosby (Eastern Michigan)

We need some edge rushing depth behind Ngakoue, and Crosby could be one of the biggest steals of Day 3. He had high production (51 pressures in 2018, per PFF) and proved that he can bend with the second-best 3-cone time among defensive linemen at the combine (6.89 s).

Round 7, Pick 236 – OG Terronne Prescod (NC State)

We could also use some depth on the interior o-line. Prescod has all the physical tools for the NFL, and he performed well at NC State last year.
