Jaguars 90 in 90: Ryquell Armstead

NFL: Jacksonville Jaguars-OTA Douglas DeFelice-USA TODAY Sports

As we work our way through the summer in preparation for 2019 training camp and the 2019 preseason, we thought it would be a good idea to go down the roster and take a peak at every single player on the Jaguars 90 man. A lot of these players we already know, but roughly half of them won’t make the final roster and there will be some battles on the back end, so this can give us at least some precursory information on players we may not be familiar with.

Now you can look smart watching the preseason games with your friends when they say “Wow, who is that guy?!” — You’ll know.

Next up, running back Ryquell Armstead.

Ryquell Armstead, rookie, 22, Temple

Armstead was a bit of a surprise pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars, in the sense that not a lot of fans were familiar with the former Temple running back. The selection in the fourth round however, makes a ton of sense for the Jaguars who needed to re-vamp their running back room. Armstead fits having a like-for-like spell for when Leonard Fournette needs to come out of the game or inevitably gets hurt.

Armstead is a bigger back with a nice second gear once he gets into the second level, but there are questions about catching out of the backfield since he didn’t do it that much in college. He may not end up the primary backup Week 1, but I’d be surprised if Armstead isn’t the primary backup by midseason.
