Yannick Ngakoue not coming to Jaguars mini-camp without new contract

NFL: Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars Douglas DeFelice-USA TODAY Sports

Jacksonville Jaguars will begin mandatory mini-camp this week, however they will be without one of their starting pass rushers in Yannick Ngakoue. Ngakoue has been to some of the voluntary workouts, but skipped the majority while is trying to get a new contract, entering the final year of his rookie deal.

Ngakoue will not be attending, releasing the following statement:

“I will not be attending minicamp as my contract has not been resolved. I remain committed to Jacksonville, the fans and my teammates. My hope is to be with Jacksonville for years to come.”

As mentioned, Ngakoue is on the final year of his rookie deal and the former third-round pick has played well above that level, amassing over 30 sacks in his three seasons with the team, including a Pro Bowl in 2017. While his sack total dipped in 2018, just barely missing out on another double-digit season, he was still a disruptive force in the passing game.

I expect the team and Ngakoue to workout a deal at some point prior to the season.
