As we work our way through the summer in preparation for 2019 training camp and the 2019 preseason, we thought it would be a good idea to go down the roster and take a peak at every single player on the Jaguars 90 man. A lot of these players we already know, but roughly half of them won’t make the final roster and there will be some battles on the back end, so this can give us at least some precursory information on players we may not be familiar with.
Now you can look smart watching the preseason games with your friends when they say “Wow, who is that guy?!” — You’ll know.
Next up, defensive end Josh Allen.
Josh Allen, rookie, 21, Kentucky
Allen was the Jacksonville Jaguars first round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The team kind of lucked out that he fell right into their lap with surprise picks by the Oakland Raiders and the New York Giants picking Daniel Jones one pick ahead of the Jaguars. The good thing for the Jaguars however is that they needed to improve their pass rushing depth and plan for a future without Calais Campbell who could be gone in 2020, so someone like Allen can fill that roll.
While some thought that the Jaguars may move towards some 3-4 fronts in their defense and use Allen as a linebacker, defensive coordinator Todd Wash kind of squashed that a week ago, indicating Allen is going to be a defensive end. I still wouldn’t be shocked to see Allen move around some to rush the passer from different angles and the team to sprinkle in some 3-4 looks on passing downs.
