The Jacksonville Jaguars hit the field to begin their work for 2019 training camp on Thursday morning, however as we know pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue will not be out there. Ngakoue did not report to the team on Wednesday, as expected, holding out in hopes of a new long term deal with the Jaguars, as Ngakoue is in the final year of his rookie contract.
Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone doesn’t seem overly concerned however, and expects Ngakoue to be here soon.

“Obviously we know about Yannick, so lets address that,” Marrone said when he met with the media Thursday morning prior to practice. “It’s really part of this business, what goes on, there’s a business side of it. I stay out of it, I always have. I’ve been in touch with Yannick, we’ve been talking to him. Again, it’s between Yannick and his agent, management and contracts. He’s working hard, he’s trying to get this thing done, we’re trying to get this thing done. We’re excited for him. He’s going to come, he’ll report but I don’t know when. I know it will be before a certain date.”
The date Marrone is referring to is the August 6th deadline, in which if Ngakoue has not reported by then he will not accrue his fourth season in the NFL and then will not be eligible to be an unrestricted free agent after the 2019 season.
Even without that deadline, I didn’t expect Ngakoue to miss actual games. That just doesn’t seem to be in Ngakoue’s makeup.
Either way, Ngakoue will be here in 2019 regardless if he gets a new deal or not.
