As we work our way through the summer in preparation for 2019 training camp and the 2019 preseason, we thought it would be a good idea to go down the roster and take a peak at every single player on the Jaguars 90 man. A lot of these players we already know, but roughly half of them won’t make the final roster and there will be some battles on the back end, so this can give us at least some precursory information on players we may not be familiar with.
Now you can look smart watching the preseason games with your friends when they say “Wow, who is that guy?!” — You’ll know.
Next up, defensive lineman Taven Bryan.
Taven Bryan, veteran, 23, Florida
A lot of fans forget that Taven Bryan is on the Jaguars, ironically enough, but I think he could prove to be an important player for the Jaguars during the 2019 NFL season. Bryan was picked as one for the future at the end of the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft and his contribution on the field that season pointed to him being exactly that, one for the future. In Bryan’s defense, the team asked him to transition from defensive tackle to strongside end, which took a lot of getting used to. However, the Jaguars moved Bryan back inside later in the season and he actually flashed for a few plays.
With the team moving on from Malik Jackson, I would expect Bryan to get more snaps on the inside at three-technique and still fill in outside when necessary. It’s fine to move him around and get use out of his physical skill set, but at some point the team has to decide what position he is going to play so he can settle in.
