Nick Foles was planning to retire in 2017 due to ‘lingering elbow issue’

It’s not news that newly signed Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles was planning to retire before the 2017 NFL season after largely unsuccessful stints with the then St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs.

What is a bit of a shocker is that it was because of a “lingering elbow injury” and not, well, just poor quarterback play.

That’s according to Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham who told ESPN’s Tim McManus that Foles told him he was hanging it up after a bad year in Kansas City.

But in those two years following contemplating retirement he won a Super Bowl, nearly went to another NFC Championship, and signed a massive contract with a new team. He’s gone 4-1 in the playoffs, thrown 473 passes, completed nearly 68 percent of his passes in the playoffs, and more.

Whether or not Foles is worth the $88 million contract the Jaguars threw at him remains to be seen, but if he doesn’t pan out I don’t think it’s because of an elbow injury.
