The NFL rumor mill is going to get fired up in the last week of the preseason as teams look to finalize their rosters and target areas where they need to add players. It started early this week, with Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Laquon Treadwell’s name being bounced around in trade rumors since he is apparently on the roster bubble.
It wouldn’t shock me to see the Jaguars make a move for a receiver, tight end or running back and Rapoport’s reasoning and link was current Jaguars offensive coordinator John DeFilippo, who had Treadwell shortly in Minnesota.
The former first round pick hasn’t had a great start to his NFL career, though he is playing behind two fantastic receivers in Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen, he has just over 50 receptions, 500 yards and one touchdown through three seasons and he was a lot more involved early in 2018 prior to DeFilippo being fired.
Ultimately, I don’t think anything will materialize here, but the gamble is probably worth a late Day 3 pick for a position still very much in flux at the back end. Treadwell does offer size and ability to make contested catches, something the Jaguars group doesn’t have much of.
