The Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly working overtime to repair their fractured relationship between All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey and the organization, specifically front office leader Tom Coughlin.

This is all detailed in an Associated Press report from Mark Long:

The Jags would prefer to keep their star cornerback after several days of trade talks with other NFL teams, according to a person close to the situation. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity Friday because details of trade talks have not been publicly discussed. The decision came amid a much-needed, 20-7 victory over Tennessee.

Ramsey hugged several fellow defensive backs after the win, appearing to say goodbye in what many believed would be his final game with Jacksonville (1-2). Behind the scenes, though, teammates, coaches and members of the front office were working to try to repair Ramsey’s fractured relationship with the franchise, specifically with top executive Tom Coughlin.

It’s no secret that Ramsey’s feud is with Coughlin and only Coughlin, he said as much earlier in the week. And it makes a lot of sense and fits in with everything we’ve heard from former players like NFL Network’s Maurice Jones-Drew ESPN690’s Austen Lane — the frustration stems from seeing bad players rewarded and good players given the boot.

Allen Robinson is the franchise record holder for receiving yards and touchdowns in a single season? He’s now with the Chicago Bears.

Blake Bortles is carried by the defense to the AFC Championship? Nice, fat contract extension.

As Alfie Crow said earlier this week, the Jaguars have struggled to setup a blueprint on how players get contract extensions and what rules they operate by.

Yannick Ngakoue is a model citizen and Pro Bowl caliber player. He’s arguably a top-10 pass rusher in the NFL right now and the Jaguars are playing hardball with him. If Ngakoue can’t even get some love from Coughlin, what does that say about how they’ll treat Ramsey in contract negotiations?

Hopefully, the two sides can work it out and Ramsey (and Ngakoue) can get paid immediately.
