The news world was once again rocked on Wednesday by an early morning report of Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey being expected to report to the building for his normal day of work, however he would be getting treatment for his back and hamstring and may not practice. Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone was peppered with questions about Ramsey’s status and injury and answered them as best he could between laughs.

“I don’t know. I really don’t know. I mean it just gets tight. His back got tight, it’s normal, his back has gotten tight before,” Marrone said when asked about when Ramsey’s injury happened. “My back’s tight, a couple of guys’ backs are tight. A couple of guys have hamstrings, everyone gets this stuff.”

Marrone was continually asked about the questions, chuckling as each new one came.

“I’m serious, I don’t know. He reported that his back was sore. Usually when someone reports their back’s sore it could have happened – I don’t know. I really don’t know,” Marrone continued. “And in [the] past, people that have had the same issues I haven’t known about that either, because it happens after the game then we know after the game.”

Marrone also stated that to his knowledge Ramsey didn’t report any issues after the Thursday Night Football game against the Tennessee Titans, however Ramsey’s agent claims he initially told trainers about his back and hamstring during the Thursday Night game and that he’s been getting treatment since Friday, including on Monday when Ramsey was reportedly sick.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Jaguars clarified after Marrone’s press conference that Ramsey did come to the trainers on Thursday in the fourth quarter about his back and hamstrings.

To defend Marrone a bit, I would not expect him to know every time a player goes to the trainers and gets treatment and unless the player is slated to miss practice, it’s unlikely they’re going to tell him which is why he was told today Ramsey would miss practice. That’s how injury reports work in the NFL and if the trainers feel it’s an issue, they alert the coach. However, if it’s just soreness or something of that nature and they player is good to go, they’re not going to make sure the coach is given a report.

As I mentioned on Monday, every little thing is going to be over analyzed and people will be making a lot of mountains.

The word currently is there are no deals imminent, the Jaguars want to work it out and keep Ramsey and nothing that we’re aware of has changed that. Knowing Jalen Ramsey like we all do, I’d think if this were truly a hell bent stare-down and game of chicken he would just sit out and eat fines rather than random hamfisted excuses to skip practice.
