2019 NFL odds Week 1: Jaguars open as home underdogs vs. Chiefs

The Jacksonville Jaguars are currently opening as -3.5 point underdogs against the Kansas City Chiefs in their season opener at home at TIAA Bank Field. The over/under is set at 52 points.

That’s all according to Bet Online, which figures that the Jaguars will lose somewhere in the ballpark of 28-24 to the Chiefs.

I hate any betting line between 3-4 points. That’s the average margin of victory and defeat in the NFL. Sure, you have your blowouts and defensive battles — but that’s the kind of line that doesn’t let you get comfortable until the final whistle.

For my money, I’m betting the over. I think the Jaguars can put up at least 24 points on the Chiefs, but I think the Chiefs win by a few points more. Patrick Mahomes was a first year starter last year and he showed zero rust coming out of the gate in the first few weeks last year, hanging a 35-3 defeat on the Oakland Raiders. That offense is just so fast and while I think the Jaguars defense will be able to keep up in the secondary and apply pressure in the backfield, it’s a tall task.

tl;dr — I’m leaving the -3.5 line alone and going over 52 points.

What do you think? Are you betting the line on either the Jaguars or Chiefs? Or are you going over or under? Let us know in the comments below!
