The Jacksonville Jaguars 2019 regular season is just days away! And you know what that means?
WIN LOSS PREDICTIONS THAT WILL PROBABLY LOOK VERY DUMB IN DECEMBER!
Here are our predictions for how a season with a quarterback who plays better than that potato last season and a defense that may be better than we think:
Week 1: vs. Kansas City Chiefs
Loss. As Alfie Crow pointed out earlier in the offseason, the first six weeks of the Jaguars’ schedule is rough. I’ve always thought that we don’t come out of it with more than a 3-3 record, and with Hurricane Dorian bearing down on Jacksonville as we speak and distracting players, it’s not set up well for us to steal an early season game from a better team.
Record: 0-1
Week 2: @ Houston Texans
Win. Lamar Miller is out and although Deshaun Watson is one of the better quarterbacks we’ll face this year I think we have the pass rush to stop him.
Record: 1-1
Week 3: vs. Tennessee Titans
Win. Taylor Lewan’s suspension is that big, folks. I think Marcus Mariota will be running for his life and the Jaguars enjoy a win with a long weekend.
Record: 2-1
Week 4: @ Denver Broncos
Win. Joe Flacco is a less-than-mobile quarterback who plays perfectly into how this Jaguars defense is built. The disadvantage of playing in Denver will be tough and a 4:25pm kickoff is less than ideal though.
Record: 3-1
Week 5: @ Carolina Panthers
Loss. This defense will have no answer for Cam Newton and Christian McCaffery so early in the season.
Record: 3-2
Week 6: vs. New Orleans Saints
Loss. Drew Brees was one of the least sacked, least pressured quarterbacks in the NFL last year. I don’t think our defense or offense match up well against them.
Record: 3-3
Week 7: @ Cincinnati Bengals
Win. I did this back in April and thought the Bengals would be a victory. Then the offseason happened and I really think it’s a victory.
Record: 4-3
Week 8: vs. New York Jets
Win. Sam Darnold won’t be as bad as he was last season in Jacksonville, but this is another matchup that’s favorable to the home team.
Record: 5-3
Week 9: vs. Houston Texans (in London)
Win. The Texans have never been to London and I think the more experienced Jaguars will win across the pond.
Record: 6-3
Week 10: BYE WEEK
Week 11: @ Indianapolis Colts
Win. The loss of Andrew Luck is a huge blow to the Colts. Jacoby Brissett won’t be a disaster, but he won’t be beating this Jaguars defense.
Record: 7-3
Week 12: @ Tennessee Titans
Loss. Taylor Lewan is back and the Titans will be in midseason form. A trip to Nashville never goes well when the Titans have a halfway decent team.
Record: 7-4
Week 13: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Win. A turnover-happy quarterback coming to town? Sign me up.
Record: 8-4
Week 14: vs. Los Angeles Chargers
Win. This is the game that shows us whether Nick Foles was worth the money or not. A loss puts you dangerously close to must-win mode for the final three games. A win puts you in the driver’s seat for a playoff spot. The Chargers will be in a playoff chase of their own, but a cross-country trip doesn’t bode well for Philip Rivers.
Record: 9-4
Week 15: @ Oakland Raiders
Loss. Until Jacksonville shows me they can win on cross country trips to the West Coast, I won’t believe it.
Record: 9-5
Week 16: @ Atlanta Falcons
Loss. The Falcons are good and this will be one of those games we fumble near the goal line. It puts us in playoff mode for Week 17.
Record: 9-6
Week 17: vs. Indianapolis Colts
Win. The Colts will be running out the string on a disappointing season and the Jaguars will be playing for the AFC South title.
Record: 10-6
