The Jacksonville Jaguars have a lot of needs on both sides of the ball going into the 2021 NFL Draft.
With two picks in next year’s draft, Jacksonville can hit the reset button on the most important position in professional sports — and that’s exactly what CBS Sports thinks they’re going to do.
Ryan Wilson just posted his latest 2021 mock draft and he went through the entire first round with an eye on the offense for our Jaguars.
Round 1, Pick 2: Ohio State QB Justin Fields
Yes. Yes, yes, yes, and more yes. It is time to go after a potential franchise quarterback who looks to actually be a natural thrower of the football. The Jaguars haven’t picked a quarterback in the first round since 2014 but it’s well past time for them to upgrade the position from which success will run downstream to the rest of the roster.
Gardner Minshew was sidelined with an injury and while Jake Luton looked pretty good at times against the Texans, he’s not the Jags’ next franchise QB. That will be Justin Fields, who could very well end up being the second player drafted.
Whatever it takes, Jacksonville.
Round 1, Pick 22: Florida TE Kyle Pitts
Ryan, bless you.
The Jaguars passing offense will be getting a shot to the arm with the first two picks of the 2021 NFL Draft with a franchise quarterback and the best tight end in college football. You need a dominant quarterback to even compete in today’s NFL and it’s becoming increasingly obvious that a first rate tight end is in some ways more important than a wide receiver.
The Jags got their quarterback with their first first-rounder and now they add Pitts, who has Darren Waller-type dominant traits.
Stay tuned for mock drafts from Day 2 as the Jaguars have plenty of picks in the later rounds too.
