2020 NFL odds Week 9: Jaguars open as 6.5 point underdogs vs. Texans

NFL: Jacksonville Jaguars-Training Camp Douglas DeFelice-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars are currently 6.5-point underdogs for their Week 9 home matchup against the Houston Texans.

That’s a big line at home and it’s deserved — not necessarily because the Texans are good (they aren’t) but because the Jaguars are bad and they’ll be starting either Mike Glennon or rookie Jake Luton at quarterback. Houston is also better than its 1-6 record. The team has lost close games to some good teams too.

Anyway, that’s all according to Bovada, who has the over/under set at 51.5 points.

In short, Vegas thinks the Texans win with a score around 29-23.

Traditionally, the home team in NFL games are given a free three points and then the line goes from there, so this is saying that the Jaguars would lose by two scores if the game were in Houston. I’m here to tell you that we’d lose by a lot more.

Until the Jaguars prove they can cover a spread, they can’t... and they’ve been unable to do so in each of the last four weeks.

Bet your mortgage on the Texans to win in a blowout.
