The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without second-year starter Gardner Minshew at quarterback thanks to a hand injury he sustained a few weeks ago, leaving the team with just Jake Luton and Mike Glennon to fill the void against the Houston Texans this week.
And from reports today it would seem Luton is the favorite to be the starter this Sunday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
#Jaguars coach Doug Marrone confirms that QB Gardner Minshew is out this week and adds that rookie QB Jake Luton will get starter reps in practice. It appears Luton is the most likely candidate to replace Minshew as starter.

The team is sitting at 1-6 and have one of the worst defenses in the NFL. There is absolutely no upside to playing Mike Glennon unless you absolutely have to and there is some benefit to seeing what you have in Jake Luton, who was a sixth round pick in last year’s NFL Draft.
“We liked his size, we liked his release, his arm strength,” general manager Dave Caldwell said after drafting him in May. “Bigger body. And we really liked the way he threw the ball at the NFLPA game, at the all-star game he was at.”
Go see what you have in Luton and keep Glennon on the shelf for as long as possible.
