Solving the Nick Foles Problem

Right now the Jags have a Nick Foles problem.

Nick Foles at the moment is projeced as the Jags back-up QB going into the 2020 season in which he will have a 22 million dollar cap hit. A cap hit that inflates to 25 and 28 million dollars in the following seasons.

In going over the ways in which the Jags could possibly get Foles off the books the only option I could think of would be to part ways with draft capital.

The trade scenario would look very simialr to the Brock Osweiler trade Houston did with Clevelend; with Houston sending a second round pick Clevelands way in exchange for Cleveland absorbing Osweilers contract.

The only team could feasibly see this plan going through with is the Tampa Bay Buccanners for the Following reasons:

- Nick Foles is a Bruce Arians QB prototype.

- It is very likely the Bucs will be parting ways with Jameis Winston this offseason.

- Tampa Bay will have over 100 million dollars in cap space with most of their core players signed to long term deals. Meaning they have the cap space to absorb Foles contract without any damaging cap implications.

- If the Buccaners do decide to draft a QB this year they will have the option to sit him behind Foles to develop.

- Tampa Bay has a lot of holes on there roster, and the extra draft capital would be valuable to them.

I know parting with a high draft pick doesn't sit well with many Jags fans but the mistake of signing Foles to such an egregious contract means it's going to be painful to dig ourselves out of this hole. I think it's better to rip the bandaid of quickly in one go then to drag this mistake further into out future.

*Curious to know what other Jags fans would think about this scenario.*
