The Jacksonville Jaguars are in need of another quarterback — but who that quarterback is, how soon he’ll compete with Gardner Minshew for the starting position, and how much experience they have will flesh out in the coming weeks.
Two high-profile veterans are available right now in free agency: Cam Newton and Jameis Winston.
But if you ask Jaguars fans who they’d rather have, the answer is very clear.
If the #Jaguars had to sign one, who would you rather they sign?

In a 24-hour poll with 7,995 respondents, the overwhelming favorite was Newton with just under 75 percent of the vote.
The case for Cam Newton
He’s a better quarterback, plain and simple. God forbid, if Minshew goes down, Newton would be able to execute the Jaguars offense just as well — if not better. The Jaguars are competing for a playoff spot this year and they need to make sure they’re prepared at all positions, especially quarterback. We also don’t really know how Minshew will handle his sophomore season and if he flames out, having Newton on the roster would buy this team a year or two to find another quarterback of the future.
The case for Jameis Winston
A quarterback like Newton isn’t going to take well to the situation in Jacksonville. At best, he’d be competing for the starting job with a second-year player like Minshew. At worst, he’d come in as the unquestioned backup. Newton is looking to be a starter somewhere. That’s why Winston makes a bit more sense. Winston’s not the same talent that Newton is and I think he’d more so welcome the opportunity to start over somewhere new while not being too far from home. And while Winston isn’t as great a player as Newton, he can run an offense better than most other veteran options out there.
Summary
There’s good and bad that would come with either signing and maybe the best option is to not sign either of them. Who would you sign? Let us know in the comments below!
