This year, the NFL will be taking extra precautions as it figures out how to navigate through the coronavirus pandemic absent a bubble. One of the mechanisms includes a new reserve list, that allows for if a player tests positive for COVID-19 or comes in close contact with a person or persons that have the virus, they’ll be quarantined and placed on this list.
The Jaguars had several players land on the list, including Scott. Along with the team’s newest cornerback, rookies cornerback Luq Barcoo, defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton and offensive lineman Tre’Vour Wallace-Simms were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, along with veteran OL Jawaan Taylor and Ryan Pope.
Scott is currently the only player to have been removed from the list thus far, according to the Jaguars and the transaction wire. For players that are listed on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list, the minimum period is commensurate with the applicable mandatory testing and/or quarantine time required by the NFL/NFLPA Testing and/or Treatment Protocols to clear that player.
Shortly after being announced to be on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list, Scott took to Twitter to clarify his placement, stating:
“My first test for Covid came back positive but then was re-tested multiple times the following days after that and those results have all been negative,” Scott said. “My first test was a false positive guys so we’re all good just had to do the protocol.”
As training camp continues to unfold, it will be vital for the team’s rookies to have as much attention as possible in terms of practice time. Without preseason, the Jaguars could be behind the eight-ball in terms of rookie development. With Scott activated off of the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list he will be able to, one again, participate in the team’s rookie walkthroughs.
The Jaguars have a total of 30 rookies on their roster, including 12 draft selections.
