What is going to happen with the 2020 NFL season is still up in the air due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as quite a bit of the United States, especially Florida, have seen a massive uptick in cases. Some NFL teams have already announced plans for limited capacity and there are rumors of cancelled preseason games to delay the start of the season. The Jacksonville Jaguars have not announced anything officially, but sources tell Big Cat Country they will be taking some measures if the NFL season does indeed happen.
The Jaguars will be closing off the first few rows closest to the field, at the very least. The idea behind this is to force “social distancing” from the players and sideline crew, by closing off the first handful of rows closest to the field and rows next to the on-field tunnels. The NFL has yet to say if they’re going to use a “bubble” policy like the NBA is trying, but if the idea is to have fans in the stadium, closing off rows closest to the players is going to be a necessary step and something the Jaguars will be doing.
The Jacksonville Jaguars could also end up offering season ticket holders the option to defer their season tickets to the 2021 season, as if the season goes forward in 2020, it is very likely that the Jaguars will adopt what some other teams have decided to do and limit capacity to around 15,000 fans who will all have to sign waivers in order to attend the games with forced social distancing.
A source tells Big Cat Country the Jaguars have not made an official decisions and likely won’t until the NFL adopts a league-wide policy, but the talk has been of an option to defer to 2021 and limiting the capacity by a significant amount for home games.
