Since the end of one of the most disappointing seasons in Jaguars history, the city of Jacksonville has been on its heels, waiting for word on what would happen. Who would be the new head coach? Where does Jacksonville go from there?
Yesterday, their questions were answered, at least in part. Jaguars owner Shad Khan announced late Thursday evening that the team would be hiring former University of Florida and Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, one of the most accomplished college coaches in history.
Meyer’s accolades are well-documented. He has won three National Championships, two with Florida and one with Ohio State. His winning percentage of 85.4% speaks for itself. His record of 187-32 as a head coach stems from stints at Bowling Green, Utah, and the aforementioned stops at Florida and Ohio State.
With Meyer now officially in the fold, we asked you on social media for your reactions and general comments to the hire.
Tweet me your reactions #Jaguars fans, how do you feel about Urban Meyer as the next head coach?

Homerun hire. Urban has won everywhere he has been. He will build the organization from the ground up. I don't care if he retires in 5 years if we win a Superbowl!!!#Jaguars #UrbanMeyer

Some were more hesitant...
Mixed feelings. Not too many options out there. Not sure about the transition from college to NFL and worried about Trevor’s upbringing with him. Hope he hires the right guys for that

We brought in a coach that is known for quitting when things gets tough. Don’t hold players accountable and is not an offensive guru. By time Lawrence rookie contract is up he will resign

Meh. I honestly don't think Urban is the franchise savior.

Same as the rest that failed. Ask me in 2 years.

Horrible. Prove me wrong Meyer, I'd be the happiest guy ever. Just dont see it. He has never coached grown men, ever only kids. Well it's done now I hope I'm wrong

And some just want to be able to feel feelings again, understandably...
I’m excited to see if he can win in the NFL. Just glad Khans taking a big shot instead of playing it safe.

I am very much not a fan of Urban but who am I kidding I am so thirsty I will drink the sand.

Jaguars fans understandably were excited, nervous and everything in between following the announcement of Meyer as their favorite team’s next head coach. Over the past several seasons there has been plenty of ups and downs, promises of a new tomorrow, and it had yet to come.
Understandably, getting burned so many times by the franchise has soured some, unable to get excited again until the winning starts, and that’s okay. The Jaguars will have plenty to prove. They’ve “won” the offseason several times in the past, but perhaps this time will be different.
For now, Jacksonville is celebrating. While some may be skeptical at first, their excitement will only have room to grow as the offseason continues. Jacksonville is slated to hold the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and there’s plenty of reason to believe the selection will be Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, one of the best quarterback prospects to come out since Andrew Luck.
Meyer has now become the centerpiece of the equation in Jacksonville, and he’s willing to do everything in his power to bring a championship to Jacksonville, something they’ve been waiting for since its inception.
“I’ve analyzed this decision from every angle—the time is right in Jacksonville, and the time is right for me to return to coaching. I’m excited about the future of this organization and our long term prospect for success.”
