Urban Meyer wants $12 million per year to be a head coach in the NFL and Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan should give it to him.
That’s according to Mike Florio over at Pro Football Talk, who is reporting the figure from league sources.
It’s become the worst-kept secret in NFL circles that the Jaguars coaching job will go to Urban Meyer if he wants it. As of Sunday, the question was whether he wants it.
If he wants it, he’ll want to be paid for it. Handsomely.
A league source tells PFT that Meyer is looking for $12 million per year.
There are several head coaching candidates who would be good hires — Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll is reportedly high on the wish list and Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy would be a solid hire.
But Meyer is a program builder and if you pair him with a season coaching staff and coordinators with plenty of experience on either side of the ball, I think he and Trevor Lawrence could immediately vault this franchise from the bottom of the league barrel.
