Bob Sutton will join Jacksonville Jaguars as senior defensive assistant

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer will have another veteran coach at his disposal with longtime defensive coordinator Bob Sutton joining his staff as a senior defensive assistant, according to Jason La Canfora.

Sutton was with the Atlanta Falcons for each of the last two seasons as a defensive assistant, but with a new coaching staff his position with the team was in doubt. He served as defensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2013 to 2018, but he will be assisting defense coordinator Joe Cullen and assistant defensive line coach Sterling Lucas, who are both reportedly coming from the Baltimore Ravens.

With two decades of experience in the NFL, Sutton will be a valuable resource to a first-time head coach in Meyer as he transitions to the league. Sutton also brings several seasons worth of work in a 3-4 defensive scheme and will help what looks to be a new defensive philosophy for this team.
