Big Cat Country Q&A: Joe Schobert got traded for what?

NFL: Jacksonville Jaguars at San Diego Chargers Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

It’s Friday and you know what that means! It’s time to answer some Jacksonville Jaguars questions!

Today we’re talking about the quarterback “competition” in training camp, Joe Schobert’s trade value, preseason playing time, and more!

Bria from Yulee, FL

Q: Which quarterbacks will make the final 53 man roster? How much will Trevor Lawrence play in the preseason?

A: If there were no trades, I’d say it’d be Trevor Lawrence and Gardner Minshew as locks. But there are trades. And I don’t think Urban Meyer is playing up this quarterback “competition” in training camp because he genuinely thinks Minshew can win the starting job. I think he’s trying to inflate Minshew’s trade value and get a pick that’s a round or two higher than what’s currently being offered to him. I have absolutely no problem with C.J. Beathard being the backup, honestly. And I also have no problem with Minshew being the backup. But I don’t think Minshew is long for this roster.

Micah from Chicago, IL

Q: Who plays more downs for us this year — Taven Bryan or CJ Henderson?

A: C.J. Henderson.

Ryan from St. Augustine, FL

Q: Which regular season game should we look forward to most?

A: Hmmm... well, aside from Week 1 against the Houston Texans, I’ll go with the game at Indianapolis. That’s smack dab in the middle of a tough string of games and if they lose that one I think they’re looking at a four-game losing streak right after the bye week. If they win, it could break up the losses and have us feeling a lot better.

Mark from Jacksonville, FL

Q: I will be at the first home game, Ryan. We can run an Oklahoma drill then. See you there.

A: I’ll be the one on his third Four Loko barely able to stand.

Ben from Jacksonville, FL

Q: A late round pick for Joe Schobert? Are you kidding me?

A: Yeah... I mean, I get it. He’s good enough that he could have helped this defense. He’s certainly the second-best linebacker on the team. But he’s not a long-term solution and his contract was structured in a way that he was likely cut after this season. Honestly, I’d be more upset at Minshew getting traded for a Day 3 pick than Schobert.

Keith from Jacksonville, FL

Q: Is it too early to think anything more sinister is at play regarding C.J. Henderson.

A: Yes.

Jacari from Longview, TX

Q: Which tackle is Walker Little pushing out?

A: Cam Robinson.

Robert from Canterbury, UK

Q: How are you feeling about the potential for the London games this year and do you view them as a hindrance? Also just want to say that I love the direction the team is heading!

A: Until the Jaguars are ready to challenge for a playoff spot, I won’t really care about the London games. They’ve been an advantage for us and it’s fun to have a nationally televised game I can watch over brunch. Now, when the Jaguars are primed to take the AFC South crown in a year or two? I might be a little more critical of going to London.
