The Jaguars waited until the final hour to announce its first round of cuts prior to the regular season beginning, officially making five roster moves to trim the 90-man training camp roster down to 85.

Jacksonville, and the rest of the NFL, had until 4:00 p.m. today to make the roster moves.

Among those waived or waived/injured today was tight end Tim Tebow, a former college and NFL quarterback. Tebow was signed by the Jaguars in May of this year, following his former collegiate head coach Urban Meyer to Jacksonville as he looked to make the transition from QB to TE.

Tebow left remarks via Twitter shortly prior to being officially waived by Jacksonville:

Along with waiving Tebow, the Jaguars waived cornerback DJ Daniel. The team waived/injured receivers Josh Imatorbhebhe and Tim Jones while placing defensive tackle Daniel Ross on the reserve/injured list.

Those that were waived/injured will revert to the team’s reserve/injured list after passing through waivers unclaimed.

Imatorbhebhe and Jones were inactive during the team’s Week 1 preseason matchup against the Cleveland Browns on Saturday, while Ross was one of the players that were injured on the day. Jacksonville will be able to retain their rights through the year and pick up where they left off last season.

As for Tebow and Daniel, they’ll immediately be able to be picked up on waivers by the rest of the league. If they pass through waivers unclaimed they’ll become street free agents, free to sign with any team in the league.

The Jaguars will now head into Week 2 of the preseason, set to face the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football, Aug. 23.

The following day, Aug. 24, the Jaguars will have to further reduce its roster to 80 players, until ultimately making final cuts to 53 players on Aug. 31.
