Special teams matter! Good news may be on the horizon as the Jaguars have officially opened the practice window for wide receiver and star kick/punt returner Jamal Agnew. The Jacksonville Jaguars today announced that the team would be opening Agnew's 21-day practice window for him to potentially return anytime over the next three weeks.

Agnew initially injured both his shoulder and ribs in the week 10 34-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He was then placed on injured reserve for the following four games.

With this news, he is now eligible to practice with the team. Agnew could be activated from the Reserve/Injured; Designated for Return List as early as this Sunday versus the Baltimore Ravens, should he respond positively to practice. However, after the 21 days have elapsed, if the Jaguars still haven’t activated Agnew he will not be able to play the entire season, including the postseason.

Agnew's return could be not only a boon to the kick and punt return special teams units, but also to the offense, with the recent injury and IR placement for Christian Kirk. While Agnew has been active for 8 games this season, he previously had limited snaps offensively, securing 9 catches, for 90 yards, and no touchdowns in his two games of moderate offensive snaps in 2023. This is in addition to his 11 punt returns for 117 yards and seven kickoff returns for 194 yards.
